CRRC Power Lithium Battery Containers Enter Trial Operation for Rail Transportation

FORM: 11/08/2026 Browse number:

Recently, freight trains carrying dedicated containers for power lithium batteries completed transportation on two cross-regional routes: Yibin-Shanghai and Ningde-Chengdu. The dedicated lithium battery containers developed by CRRC have officially entered the stage of regular trial operation by rail, marking a key transition in China’s rail transportation of power lithium batteries—from periodic pilot operations to broader, cross-regional regular operations.

Power lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods, placing stringent requirements on railway transportation in areas such as safety protection, structural strength, and resistance to vibration and impact. To this end, CRRC-affiliated companies developed dedicated containers featuring optimized internal protective systems and cargo securing designs, enhancing safety throughout the transportation process.

According to estimates, compared with road transportation, on routes exceeding 800 kilometers with annual freight volumes of more than 50,000 tonnes, regular rail transportation can reduce overall logistics costs by more than 30%. This can effectively meet the needs of power battery manufacturers for large-volume, long-distance transportation.
